Research conducted by Belinda Forster (née Harvie, daughter of Ron) and Stephen Barraud (son of Belinda) at the National Archives revealed that towards the end of the Second World War, Ron was working in a specialised unit known as "A" Force.

"A" Force's task was to confuse and mislead enemy forces. The documents found at the National Archives were mainly Ron's instructions to double agents, detailing the misinformation they should send to their Axis controllers.
