Sphakia Region 6: Khora Sphakion – Sphakiano Gorge – Mouri

Region 6: Khóra Sphakíon–Sphakianó Gorge-Mourí. This region is defined on the E by the Sphakiano Gorge, and on the W by the eastern cliffs of the Kavri Gorge. To the NW are the steeply rising slopes of the White Mountains (the nearest peaks are Kastro, E; and Kakovoli, W); to the S is the Libyan Sea. Region 6 covers 39km2 and ranges in elevation from 0 to 1200m. Four environmental zones are included in this region: Zone A. Coasts and Coastal Plains (at Khora Sphakion); Zone B. Lower Slopes (Toikhoi ridge); Zone D. Gorges (Sphakiano); and Zone E. Middle Slopes (Mouri and Lakkoi ridges). The Region covers much the same area as that of the old koinotita (commune) of Khora Sphakion.
