When his eyes hurt from watching the screen in the dark he put his phone down next to his head and continued listening for a while, and his minds eye drifted away. He felt like a weight pressed down on him as he thought of the day that passed and how he had passed the day, distracted. While the man was still speaking, halfway through his oration, Jesse closed his eyes and slept.
When he woke he stepped out of bed, and proclaimed he would not look at the messages until after breakfast. He put on the clothes that were hanging over his chair, still resting from the day before, and forced them on. He went to the bathroom and before leaving made sure to comb his hair. Downstairs he sat down for breakfast and while chewing on his first bite stood up, climbed halfway up the stairs and remembered his proclamation. He sat down and finished breakfast, he had won the day. Determined to do the work whose results people were asking of him yesterday evening he opened his laptop. He remembered the man from last night, doubted, but opened YouTube, he had been waited for...
