The contributor's father, William Arnot, worked in a warehouse in Edinburgh, before joining the RAF, aged 18. William was based in camps across England: in Leicestershire, Warton and Buckinghamshire, where he guarded German prisoners.
The contributor's uncle, George Arnot, was a baker. George enlisted when the War started, and was in the Catering Corps, mainly based in Italy.
The contributor's other uncle, Jimmy (Jake) Arnot, their father's eldest brother, had fought in the Royal Scots from 1937 until 1945, in Italy, Germany, and Japan. The contributor noted that Jimmy would not talk about his experience of the War.
The three brothers didn't see each other for 7 years during the war.
