Bronze buckle and gilded plate,.Buckle width 4.4cm. Loop slightly kidney-shaped, with short bar, and simple tongue with bronze hook. Little plate, folded over bar and cut away for tongue, twice riveted secured buckle to belt. Buckle bears traces of thick white metal plating on bronze.Gilded plate, width 3.9cm. Cast plate with bright yellow gilding. At centre a shallow cell set with flat garnet (broken), surrounded at base with nicked ridge. Main decoration a zone of Style I ornament: pair of animals in pursuit, their heads in opposite corners. Heads with helmets, eye and under-ridge, cheek and beak(?); 2 strand neck and body, forefoot with arched hip-frame, curled under front-like 4 toed foot. Hind leg with slight moulding in front of hip, leg jutting back with foot with toes fore and aft, little scut-like tail. Whole enclosed in light-and-shade nicked ridge, inside low plain rim. Silver rivet heads (round) in corners, secured plate to belt, and secured the thin sheet silver backplate, now damaged, which went under belt. Backplate delicately decorated with punched ring within concaved-sided triangles, around edge and in ring in centre. Punched dots in line around edge inside other and outside them in ring in centre.
