White-metal? fingerring

Silver finger-ring, diam. 2cm. The band flat, rectangle sectioned, 2mm across at widest, tapering at terminals and circular sectioned. A bezel is created by the elaborate coiling of the two ends into a flat spiral. This coil is now broken and it is difficult to see quite how it worked; perhaps only one ends bent into the flat and the other carried across underneath. But probably both coiled together, then ends coiled tightly on opposite sides of loop to finish off.Described as silver in the SCH index card description. – B.B.SCH originally assigned the accession number M 6551 to this object. The gatty slip for M 6346 indicates that this is a \Roman brass finger ring of twisted wire\" attributes it to Kingston grave 250 and lists the Inventorium illustration pl. XI.13. Therefore M 6346 is a better match though the National Museums Liverpool now records it with other rings accessioned as M 6551 (see listings under Sibertswold grave 180 and dis-associated finds). – D.H."
