Wartime Stories from a Care Home
1. Freda, 83 - She remembers being evacuated during an air raid, and they hid in the church because they wouldn't bomb churches at that time. She remembers food supplies being delivered, but that it was really scary. There was darkness and lots of children crying.
2 . Lillian, 97 - She remembers being really frightened and upset. Her father and brother were being unwillingly sent to war, and the goodbye was incredibly awful, as she never knew if they'd come back. She remembered lots of air raids too, but since some of them were practices, they'd never know if it was real or a drill.
3. Norman, 93 - He remembers rationing food, being given hand-me-downs that didn't fit, and not being able to go to school anymore. He never really learnt how to read or write properly. He remembers staying at home a lot, looking after his siblings as his mother was at work and his father was at war.
