My late father served with the RAOC between 1942 to 1947. He like many men from the North West went to North Africa and Italy. He also did not really talk about it but memories were stirred whenever we drove through Glossop when he pointed out a cafe he stopped at during training. When two players were transferred to Bari in the 80's my dad did recognise the old stadium he must have watched a football match in wartime. That is all I know about my dad's time in the army during World War 2.
