Wartime Memories of Ben Whitehouse's Family

The contributor's sister-in-law wrote a memoir in 1991 about her time as a schoolgirl. Ilvis Factory was near her house. Her name is Janet E Manton (nee Dogget). Janet studied at Barr's Hill Grammar School, Coventry.

His wife Ann Whitehouse's father, John Davis, was a recued [sic] turner. John's brother was George Davis. He died due to tonsilitis in Egypt. George was a corporal in the army.

The contributor's father, Arthur Whitehouse, was a Coventry policeman and served during the blitz. He also guarded factories. He was conscripted to India for three years (1943-1946). He was posted in the military police at the Red Fort, New Delhi. He was a regimental Sergeant Major. His wife, Hilda, mothered three kids.

The contributor's house was bombed. Both he and his wife Ann were born after the war, in 1947 and 1949 respectively. All these stories have been passed down.
