My father, Walter Sid Lee, was born in Northants about 1923; he tried to join RAF, but served in the TA and was called up in Rusden, Northants.

He served in the Royal Engineers in AT6 (Anti-tank Regiment). He became the owner of a Valentine Tank. Short spell in a Sherman tank, American. Rose to the rank of Major, Acting Lt Col.

His troop were pinned down in a wood and brought down a Fokker aircraft, probably in France, with a Browning machine gun and was awarded an Oak Leaf cluster as Mentioned in Dispatches.

There is a recording of him being interviewed by a lady from Bovington Tank Museum, Nancy Langmaid. It was held by the museum.

He was a devout British Legion supporter.
