a. Silver stud, with round head, hollow at back, and plain shank, diam. 2cm. Head chip-carved: two interlocking animals, with open jaws, round eye, curving neck, and angled fore-foot with many toed frond-like foot. Body head and hip outlined with fine groove filled with niello, neck dec. with line and dot incisions filled with niello, hip with nielloed dots.b. Similar stud, diam. 1.9cm. Similar nielloed detail on chip-carved dec. consisting of similar head and neck of one animal, but with rump, tail, and curious diagonal features.Proc. Hist. Soc. Lancs. and Cheshire 9, p. 277.
