Thor Larsen: A WWII RAF Veteran's Journey

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 19:51 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

My grandfather, Thor Larsen, was in WWII, having joined the RAF. He trained in Canada as a lot of aircrew did. He flew in and out of Scotland and married his wife during this period.

He became a prisoner of war thrice.

On one occasion, he was moved to Dresden prison after having a German lawyer attend him.

He escaped the P.O.W. camp and weighed 6 stones! He escaped from Dresden. The escapers had to eat cabbage and sugarbeet that they found. He had to be nursed back to life. His wife tried to find out about him and where he was.

He was still in Dresden after the war finished whereupon he was shipped to Brighton and tried to go back to living a good life. He became a member of the British Embassy. His WWII story has been turned into a booklet.
