The Very Worst Day

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 18:59 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

My father, Norman Shaw took part in the D-Day landings driving a tanker of aviation fuel to establish a landing strip in France for Typhoon fighter planes. He was hurried on by all around as he and his load were deemed a potential bomb in their midst. He stated after surviving this day, every other was a bonus.

The making of a man truly, as he died after a full day's work at the age of 80, in 2004, just after my parents celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
