Frank Albert Ford was awarded the D.S.M for bravery and resourcefulness. He served on HMS Calcutta and when it was hit, he stayed on board burning all the papers. He was in the sea for three hours before being picked up. He was taken to Alexandra and it was three years before he returned to the UK. He received the DSM from the King who said to him, 'You have been a long while coming to get this'. He was awarded the DSM for bravery and resourcefulness.

He joined the Navy aged 15 years. When the war over, he wanted a change and went into the South African Navy, and then later, into the East African Navy.

He never spoke about the war and the contributor wishes they knew a lot more about him.
