The Journey of a Chindit's Family, 1939-1946

Dad was called up in December 1942. After training as a signalman, he embarked for India in October 1943, just after his daughter's 7th birthday and his son's 5th. He was attached to the 3rd West African Brigade and served as part of Operation Thursday in Burma, the Chindits, who were operating behind the Japanese lines. After the war was over, he got a fortnight's leave at home before being sent back out to India where he remained until August 1946. Mum had to bring up my brother and sister on her own, at times not knowing where my dad was or even if he was alive or dead.
