The Doctor-Patient Relationship in Literature & the Arts: Medicine in Art, University of Utah

Many forms of art—visual, performance, cinematic, literary, etc.—portray aspects of medicine. We will consider a wide range of artworks that represent figures or concepts from medicine. How do certain artworks explore the artists’ relationships to the medical practices of their times? How does making or viewing artworks shape and enhance medical practice? Why and how is the term "art" used in discussions of medicine?. Enrollment Requirements: Prerequisite: Completion of the first two years of medical school. Elective only. This information has been collected for the Post-Discipline Online Syllabus Database. The database explores the use of literature by schools of professional education in North America. It forms part of a larger project titled Post-Discipline: Literature, Professionalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities, led by Dr Merve Emre with the assistance of Dr Hayley G. Toth.
