Story of Gwilym Roberts

Gwilym was local to Caernarfon living in Parc Newydd, Rhosgadfan. He joined the Welsh Regiment in 1942. Photo include memorial march as his cousin Maldwyn Roberts was killed while in RAF in Germany probably Hamburg. Photos include Gwilym and Maldwyn as youngsters.

Gwilym ended the war as an Irish Fusilier and survived the war. Years later he could not bowl cricket over arm and on closer inspection at the hospital was told he still had shrapnel in his lung. He had been hit by a mortar bomb during the war and Christmas 1944 spent in hospital with appendicitis. He fought at Monte Cassino.
