online resource
posted on 2024-06-12, 12:40 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

The contributor's grandfather, Stan Bradford's logbook from when he flew in 1943-44 with 57 squadron shows that he was a mid-upper gunner. He was based at East Kirkby and Scampton, Lincolnshire. He spoke of the war many times. He was credited with shooting down six German fighters and won the Distinguished Flying Medal (DFM), presented to him by King George. He received a congratulatory letter from Bomber Harris. After he finished flying, he served at RAF Abingdon to assist with demobbing British servicemen. A beer was named after him, created by Loose Cannon Brewery, called 'Gunner's Gold'. Stan Bradford died in 2017.
