Using linear regression analysis on a representative stratified sample of head teachers, teachers, pupils, and households connected to public primary schools in five Nigerian states, a forthcoming RISE working paper analyzes the relationship between students' performances at school as measured by test scores and School Based Management Committees (SBMCs) structure and functioning (parents' membership, gender composition, and decision-making processes). Results suggest a significant and positive relationship between student performance and the percentage of women in SBMCs. That said, results on the relationship between democratic functioning of SBMCs and student test scores were inconclusive.
