The contributor shared that their uncle was killed Krakow, Poland by the SS because they suspected that he was Jewish despite him having been Catholic. The contributor explained that his uncle was taken outside and circumsised and then told he would be shot. The contributor described his uncle praying before being shot in the back of the head and left for dead.

Another of the contributor's uncles served in the Polish army under British command. A third uncle had escaped to Romania when the war broke out and made his way to England. This uncle invited the contributor, along with their mother and brother, to attend school in England in 1957.
