Reginald Wooldridge and Oliver Newing - two grandfathers

Reginald Wooldridge was a Sergeant in the 7th Armoured Unit (REME), whose job it was to fix tanks. He served as a Desert Rat, but for D-Day, he was in charge of tanks as they were shipped across. At the end of the war, he was in Berlin and took part in a victory parade. He was then assigned to work at Volkswagen to help rebuild the factory, where he stayed for several years.

Oliver Newing served in the East Kent Regiment, 5th Battalion (Buffs). He left for France on 19 April 1940 and was captured at Dunkirk. He walked across Belgium to a POW camp (Stalag Luft VIIIB), where he was imprisoned until 1945.
