My mother told me about one day she was outside her house in Marlborough Road.

She was about the age of 14 years with her friend playing and heard an aircraft. They looked to see the aircraft and it was a German fighter. It flew around the college in Longbridge Road. I asked my mother why this aircraft was flying over the college. She said that she was told it must have been doing reconnaissance to see if the college would be a target for bombing.

My mother said as the plane was flying away the pilot waved at them, but she didn't wave back.
