The contributor discussed the wartime experiences of her father, William Currie Thornton. The contributor shared that her father waited to join the war effort until he was called up in 1943. William's basic training took place in Norfolk, and half of those in his training were sent to D-Day landings while the other half were sent to India. The contributor noted that her father considered himself lucky to have been sent to India. After being in India, the contributor shared that William was sent to Japan. Escorting prisoner up to Changi jail [sic]. The contributor advised that William had to wait in Singapore for 3 months before returning home after the war, and he never spoke of his wartime experiences.

The contributor stated that her parents met in Birmingham after the war and married. The contributor shared a story of her mother's wartime experience in which the contributor's mother travelled to her paternal grandparents by bike from Yardley Wood and put them on a bus from Digbeth while following the bus back on her bike. The contributor added that her mother worked in a munition factory during the Second World War.
