Perforated rock-crystal ball
Much damaged crystal ball, diam. 3cm. On one side pierced by two drilled holes, which enter diagonally and meet. Obviously for suspension. The position of the perforation drilled into the crystal 'ball' is unsual. The object may have been one of the 'crystal balls' found at Gilton around 1840 (Roach Smith 1844, 133), or it may actually not be of an Anglo-Saxon date. – B.B.
