Pamela Higgins' Memories of Family Life During Wartime

Pamela was born in 1934. She was a Girl Guide as a Blue Tit in Surrey in 1945.

Her father, William Walter Higgins, worked for Vickery, building ships. In 1926, he did a census in Ireland. The Irish Prime Minister, de Valera, wrote a letter thanking him. William was in the Machine Gun Corps during World War 1 as a 17-year-old boy. He lied about his age.

He was part of a civil protection group during World War 2. He got a shelter built at the foundation of his big, 7-bedroom house, but the house was never bombed.

Pamela's mother, Violet, was a housewife and hosted a paying guest.

William died when Pamela was eight years old. Violet married again. William wrote a will and transferred his property to Violet.
