Pair of inlaid white-metal pendants

Pair of kit-shaped stone settings made of porphyri! Length 1.5cm and 1.65cm; thickness 2mm and 2.5mm. They have been cut and polished absolutely flat on both surfaces, and the edges are likewise smooth. Because these were made for silver settings, the angles have been ground away to create a slight bevelling. Beautifully finished. The silver frames were so 'rotten' that they broke into dust when Faussett tried to lift them, and now there are no traces of the silver left at all.Porphyri. The stone is a deep purplish-red-brown colour, with white inclusions. Dictionary definition says 'A beautiful and very hard rock quarried in Egypt (anciently), composed of crystals of white or red plagioclase felspar embedded in a fine red ground-mass.' The identification as Porphyri is on the Mayer index card, as if a geologist had seen them.
