Pair of bronze bow brooches, length 8.5cm and 9cm (unbent eg.). Very flat sectioned brooches, with steeply bent big bow framed by parallel grooves with double punched-dot tooling; no headplate, just a narrowed section at top of bow bent under into roll to hold the remains of a spring-coil of iron; foot like that of cruciform brooch, but flatter in section, decorated with groups of parallel grooves, faceting and edge-notching; foot terminates in flat excrescence in form of pair of incurving scrolls or beaks(?). Backs absolutely flat, but traces of solder where catchplate has broken away, below bow.Continental type. The brooch type 'Ozengell' (Schulze-Dörrlamm 1986, 619-20) is named after this pair. For a more recent discussion see Parfitt & Brugmann 1997, 45-46. – B.B.
