Joshua Maisey had wanted to join the Catering Corps but it was full so became a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was captured in the early part of the war in France, and was sent to a Stalag in Poland. At first, things weren't too bad, but by the end of the war the prisoners were half starved, and when he finally got home at the end of the war (arriving at Berkswell railway station in Warwickshire) he was so thin, that at first his own mother didn't recognise him.
