online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 16:39 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

Norman and Ivy (contributor's parents) met during the war at the hospital. He was a pilot. Then the Japanese invasion meant that mum took six months to get back to the UK. Met up again at Southampton. Both managed to escape. Dad was quite ill by the time he got back in 1941/2. Then back to the UK - Sunderland.

Mum said how awful the Japanese were, bayonetting patients - and bombed the hospital. Died when contributor at boarding school. Born and raised in India. She enjoyed the war and made friends who she stayed close to for life. Another post in 1942 - dealt with shrapnel injuries in London.

Contributor feels proud to have all of the memories.
