When I was born during the war, my sister, Joan, was already 22. She was engaged to Keith Douglas and they both worked at Tachbrook Aerodrome. (Ed. "Tachbrook Aerodrome" was in fact RAF Leamington and located on the Harbury Lane between Tachbrook and Whitnash. It had been a private airfield prior to WWII when it was taken over as a repair station for Jaguar Cars who repaired Wellington Bomber sections, Whitley bomber sections and finally whole Lancaster aircraft which were flown out from the grass strip alongside.)

On the night of 11 December 1943, a bomber crash-landed close to RAF Leamington, and Joan along with Keith rushed to the scene. The night in question was written about in the local Courier press in 2001. It was just one incident affecting one couple during WWII.
