Naval action in the Mediterranean

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 18:14 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

My father joined the Royal Navy by volunteering in 1939 (aged 20), and luckily survived the war, the only injury a ruptured eardrum caused by the noise of the onboard cannons. On one traumatic day in the Mediterranean his ship was sunk by a German U-boat. He was rescued by another British ship, but later that same ship was it self sunk by another U-boat.
