Myra was born in Grimsby and was living there during the war. Having been told she was going on a holiday she was evacuated to Canada for 4.5 years (!) in 1940. Most of the time she was bored in Montreal. She kept in touch with her Canadian 'Aunty' until the early 1970s - when they suddenly stopped receiving Christmas cards. Whilst at boarding school all lessons were conducted in French. An Italian teacher also made life difficult for her.
