Story comes from hand down and purchased from great-grandmother, Dorothy Scott.

Dorothy was a house cleaner - married. Lived in Castlederg - grandmother was aged 14 at the time. Went to Portrush and saw U.S. troops (82nd Airborne Division going through.

Newspaper cuttings/extracts from Sept-Dec 1942. U.S. objects don't have particular tales.

Story about Blackout - remembers seeing ARP Warden - blackout curtains, lights out. These were hard times with rationing, and was altogether depressing.

Great-grandfather died in WW1 - little information apart from fact that he served with the 36th Ulster Division at the Battle of the Somme.

Grandfather was a farmer in Castlederg - family turned out to see U.S. troops to get sweets off them. Children would chase American troops in jeeps.

Fiancees great-grandfather in France. Bombed in camp with 40-50% casualties - his hand was the only thing he could stretch out.

U.S. objects don't have particular tales - Knife found in France from WW1 (Battle of Belleau Wood) - knife fashioned into a fighting weapon.
