Contributor experienced the Second World War as a child.

William remembers collecting gas mask at a local library at the beginning of the war.

He was eventually evacuated to Mill Farm, and was then moved to Wales after Dunkirk. He went home after the Blitz to Lambeth. He later remembers the V1 & V2 attacks on London.

The household had a Morrison Shelter which they used during Air Raids and later German rocket attacks.

He has recollections of VE Night - went to Trafalgar Square and witnessed the celebrations there.

He felt like the war was a normal thing as was young child - feels he had a natural resilience as child - had a lot of half-days at school.

Eventually received a technical scholarship on completing school.
