My Great Grandad and Grandmother's WW2 Stories
My Great Grandad, William Harrison, fought in the Second World War as part of the West Yorkshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales's own). His number was Private 3450438.
He went to many places but was reluctant to talk about a lot of the war. He was eventually posted to Burma where he was injured by being shot in the leg. He spent some time in the hospital in Burma until he was discharged with honours. He received the Burma Star medal for bravery.
A song my grandad always remembers him singing was a marching song: "I had a good home and I left, left, left." It was a marching song and they had to stamp the left foot every time they said "left."
Whilst my Grandad was away fighting my Grandma was at home and volunteered as a fire truck driver. They both had great stories and I wish I could have met them to learn more.
