My Grandfather, Joseph Jenkinson served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and was shot during WW1. His injuries meant he had to have surgery.
He didn't talk much about it as he found the whole experience too horrific.
After recovering he served as a Volunteer Firemen locally to Royal Leamington Spa.

Thomas Jenkinson, the brother of Joseph, received a bravery award whilst serving in the Machine Gun Corp and his name was mentioned in a newspaper.

The grandson, Ian Harwood, was encouraged to be anti-war due to the experiences of his WW1 relatives but especially his Grandfather. He feels that their generation were loyal to their country, brave and built up comradeship due to their experiences. It is important that the world gets to know about the horrors of war so that we don't repeat the mistakes.
