My father Murray was born in 1932 and has very vivid memories of wartime Chelmsford. He lived up near the town centre, not far from the Marconi and Hoffman's factories which were targets for German bombing. He remembers his street being bombed and his house, whilst not being directly hit, was impacted. He also remembers going to RAF Boredom with a friend on their bicycles and getting on to the airfield where a USAAF bomber squadron was based. He and his friend managed to get on to one of the aircraft which had just returned from a mission; they were than chased off by one of the ground crew.
