Whilst researching my family's history, I came across the interview given to the Shoah Foundation by Lana Silberman Florida. She tells the story of her and her mother's transportation from Rostov-on-Don in Russia to Athens, Greece and subsequently Ravensbrück and Birkenau. It is a chilling story of the survival of a mother and daughter uprooted from their middle-class life to one of near death but survival in extreme circumstances in two concentration camps. At the end of the war, their liberation and story of their freedom led to a new life in the USA.
