My mother, Janet Christine Anderson (nee Holloway), was 13 years old when the war started. She volunteered through the Girl Guides, and helped at a commercial kitchen for evacuees in Wallingford, mainly washing up. She also volunteered at St Johns ambulance. She also helped by taking evacuees to their new homes; she found this was sad because the evacuee children were upset at leaving their families. An evacuee, Rosella, stayed with Janet and her family. A biography of Janet is in an image, no 6.
