Myself, aged nine at the outbreak of war, Iived in Brighton throughout, not evacuated. School time missed, spent in shelters, great fun collecting shrapnel incendiary bomb fins, working on farms, collecting salvage. Not all fun, dodging low-level bombing and machine gun attacks: "hit and run raids". Probably scared when it was happening. But do not think it affected us much, no counselling, no fuss helped.

Memories of growing up a child at war at 92 - too much to tell. As my contemporaries would tell, people did not make so much fuss; it was a different world.
