Miranda was 7 years old when the war ended. She lived in Kensington but had to be evacuated to Nottingham, which was not a positive experience.

During the evacuation, she desperately wanted to move back to London, which eventually happened in 1944 when she became ill.

At the time, it was the Blitz in London, which was a terribly frightening experience. However, despite bombs splitting houses, she was more frightened about being sent away again.

Miranda's father was in the Air Force as a squadron leader. He was involved in code-breaking in a basement at night, as he spoke German. They broadcasted to Germany on BBC radios.

Miranda's mother was at home looking after the children.
