Memories of a professional soldier
Alfred Henry Sanger was in the 3rd Carabiniers, Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards.
After twenty-two years of service, he retired and was given a commemorative silver plate on 12th January 1954.
He was based in India during WW2 and after the war was based in Germany.
After 20 years of service, he was offered a commission, in lieu of his Army pension. He turned this down to retain his pension and his Warrant Officer status.
After his retirement from the Army, he worked in Bognor Regis at Isted, the seed merchants in London Road, later on he worked for Penge at Bognor.
He never talked to his family about his war service and never talked about his father who had died of mustard gas in WW1.Alfred Henry Sanger was in the 3rd Carabiners, Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards.
