Memories of a Gunner

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 18:09 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

My father Peter Chevalier (1918-1983) served in the Royal Artillery from 1938 to 1959. He wrote 'The Phoney War Summer of '40' about the mobilisation of the Sussex Yeomanry and construction of defense works in his home town of Hove in Sussex.

He served with the 6th Army Group Royal Artillery in the Sicilian and Italian campaigns and its official history is detailed and illustrated with some very fine charcoal drawings by war artist F. Ward. I have uploaded both documents.
