In the navy, born 1925. Didn't join the navy until 1943. John was a Radio telegraphist (special) taking messages with morse code, lights, Russian convoys. He wouldn't talk about his experiences. He would talk about how sea sick they'd be. They'd sleep in hammocks. After the war, HMS Myngs was sold to the Egyptian Navy in 1953. The ship was then sunk by the Israeli military. Contributor discussed story of how Putin paid for recasts of all the medals of men who had served on HMS Myngs. Arctic Star was awarded to people on the convoys. Telegram from King George in the book. His father was deaf in one ear because a depth charge gun was discharged that he was stood too close to.
