<p dir="ltr">Father served 3 years and took one year to get back home afterwards. Was conscripted - had been going to be a primary teacher. Nearly sailed into Tokyo Bay 24 hours before the Japanese surrender.</p><p>Uncle was a prisoner of war. Freed by American soldiers and walked 500 miles across Europe.</p>
