Memories of Allen Partington

<p dir="ltr">Allen Partington was my paternal grandfather. He was one of 5 brothers from Bedford, MA (USA), who all served in WW2. Allen was a corporal in the US Army and served overseas in Europe including Italy. </p><p>He then went on to work for Office of Strategic Services (this has already been scanned).</p><p>This is a photograph of him in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa from when he was stationed in Italy. </p><p>He then went on to work for the OSS which was the precursor for what is now the CIA. He was also involved in Top Secret work making maps and aid to the WW2 effort and strategy. Grandpa was always very proud (albeit very secretive) of his military service and his work for the OSS. </p><p>Later on in his life he would talk about the maps, strategically where people were placed. He was involved in that. Not quite a spy but the strategic planning of where things were being planned. </p><p>He wasn't a lifelong service man. He was only in the military for a couple of years but it was one of those things that defined his life. He had a military send off when he passed away. It was something he was really proud and we think he would have liked that. </p><p>There is also an article from the time. He was one of five brothers involved in WW2. He was the only one in the army (the others were in the navy). It was important to them as a family. All five brothers came back home which must have been a relief to the family. At the time he was already married and he had a wife and son waiting for him at home. </p>
