Memoirs of a Tenth Royal Hussar - "There's a Soldier at the Gate"

online resource
posted on 2024-06-05, 18:20 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

Following his retirement in 1968 my father, Vincent, wrote his wartime memories by long-hand in five exercise books. The family later decided to have these typed and published in book form. Unfortunately, this was after his death in 2003, so he never saw the finished book.

My father was sent abroad when I was three years old so, when he returned, I didn't recognise him. I had been told he would be arriving and when watching from the front window called out to my mother, "there's a soldier at the gate", not realising it was my father.
