The aim of this course is to expose students to a wide variety of connections between medicine and the arts. Examining healthcare provider and patient narratives, artistic representations, musical compositions, and theatrical performances gives students the opportunity to engage in thoughtful dialogue and personal reflection about the diverse role of medical humanities in the healing process of illness and injury. Note that this course may no longer be running, but is likely to have been running for a long time - possibly under the name 'Healing and the Arts'. For more information, see This information has been collected for the Post-Discipline Online Syllabus Database. The database explores the use of literature by schools of professional education in North America. It forms part of a larger project titled Post-Discipline: Literature, Professionalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities, led by Dr Merve Emre with the assistance of Dr Hayley G. Toth.
