online resource

Margaret Lilian Banks was a cook in the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS). She maintained a diary with a record of recipes for meals. It started in November 1943.
She was based in Guildford. She later recounted stories about her time. She mentioned having her fingernails checked every day. The ovens had no temperature gauge. So, cooking involved a lot of guesswork. The diary included an order for Christmas Day at No.7, ATS Training Centre. It is autographed on the second side.
