Literature and Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center
In this one month elective, we read literature, mostly short fiction but also poetry, nonfiction and longer pieces, and reflect on the practice of medicine and the patient experience. A literary background, while welcome, is certainly not required. Most importantly, students need to have a willingness to examine their own experiences.
Fourth-year elective only.
